Warning...random

This is a totally random post so consider yourself warned! We are really busy this week with me teaching VBS and Annslee being in my class. I can tell she misses being around a lot of other kids and I miss being around some other adults....however, I am NOT complaining about staying at home.

I had to go to the church to do some prep last Sunday night and on the way we had to stop as a train went by...I looked in the rear view mirror and this is the face I saw : )

Speaking of the girl in the backseat... the other day I was trying to entertain her as we waited at a very long drive thru so I handed her my camera. She snapped a lot of photos and apparently did this self portrait

I walked into the kitchen yesterday and saw her posing in her new purple hat from the Zoo

One day last week my sister came to babysit and I met up with some girlfriends for a dinner out. It was a baby shower of sorts for my friend Shelley who is expecting in August. We had to smile because three of us are expectant moms! Shelley in August, Jana in November and me...????? It was great having a girls night out!

Finally, when I was looking at the photos from the wedding last June I came across one of Annslee in the pool with Daddy. So I thought I would do a then and now.

Looking back at these photos made me realize how much she is growing up. She has the Early Intervention lady coming once a week and the only thing she is behind in is speech. They are hoping to have her re-evaluated soon but the "guess" is that she is about a year behind. She scores so high on the receptive part that it made her not qualify for intensive speech therapy the first time even though her expressive is so far behind. On the other tests she is off the charts ahead, particularly on the Social and Adaptive where she is at the 4 year old level. She also is pretty much potty trained, can dress herself , knows all or our Chinese zodiac signs, is a master with chopsticks, and many other great things. I still have to admit the Speech issue is a concern but we are working on it and mainly because it is so frustrating for her. Believe me though..she gets her point across without a lot of words through signs, gestures and facial expressions. When she does start talking..watch out!!
One of the new things she is interested in is hair and eye color. She will tell us all of ours as she points to them. The other day at the store an Asian woman was in front of us in the check out line and Annslee kept stroking her own hair and saying black over and over and pointing to the woman who finally turned around. I told her that Annslee was pointing out that their hair was the same. She was so sweet and bent down so Annslee could touch her hair then said, "isn't our black hair beautiful?" YES..it is and I am so jealous.

That was a very fun post...always love looking at pictures of sweet Anslee.
She keeps things interesting over there, doesn't she?
She sounds like she is just smart as a whip too.
Yup, you are truly blessed. (and so is she.)

I had a whole long blurb for a comment and then read it and deleted it. We started potty training today--no fun--I have never seen her cry the way she did today:( Annslee is such a smart girl--remember what you said, once she does start talking, watch out--you can tell by her personality;) The services do help as well as continued growth:) She'll be great!! She is doing so much that many (like JiaLi) are not--Don't worry!!

They all eventually catch up with each other so don't worry! Hey, at least you have her potty trained...we're still in diapers and have absolutely no interest in the potty! I agree with Nikki, you are truly blessed, Annslee is so beautiful!

How sweet the lady in the store was.

I love the then and now picture. Why do they have to grow up so fast?

The self-portrait is too cute!!

I don't think my baby sister said a word until she was 14. Everyone was so worried. Well, that was when they weren't calling her Helen Keller. We still call her Helen sometimes. Fun!

That's awesome about the lady in the store. I have dark hair! Annslee and I are going to be BFF!

Lauren was behind in expressive speech also and caught up pretty quickly with some therapy. at least Annslee is potty trained, Lauren is not interested at all.

We loved our EI therapist who came once/week-I was sad when L. turned 3!

Have you tried the signing time DVDs? They are awesome. Also, L. loves starfall.com--I make him try to say the sound before I will click on the letters--it is a very cool site (also for later with learning to read). Oh, and the Leapfrog letter factory also got him making more sounds.

It will come, in the meantime, WTG on the potty training! That is awesome!

Saw your comment that you are in Nashville - YES - it would be fun to meet up - I'd love that - let's make it work!! Loved today's post too - SO touching!

Loved the last part of the post about the Asian woman and of course the then and now pics.

It is great to have the EI assessment and to have them get started on therapy. They will give you some great ideas to do and hopefully Annslee will love the therapist. We did speech for Josie and she caught up pretty quickly. Brynn was evaluated for physical development + they told us she had a speech delay. Ha- she speaks better than most 3 year olds now! Hopefully Annslee will make some progress quickly and lose some of the frustration.

What a cute little hat...she looks so cute in it..as always! :)

Linlee is a year behind also. She has a sign language vocab of about 70 words, but only speaks about ten. She also receives speech therapy once a week. So, I understand the concern. I know our girls will start speaking eventually, but it's hard to wait. I am so eager to hear all of my little daughter's wonderful thoughts!

Love the photos she took of herself! That sounds like such an amazing moment when that woman bent over and commented about them both having beautiful hair. I love that.

I love the photos of her in the car! There are times I wonder how I drive 6+ hours with Francesca...by myself..when we travel to Virginia. I'll have to try the camera when she is getting antsy.

We are also doing EI and speech. Mia is about 1 year behind too. She is really frustrated but I know she know what we are saying.
Great pictures.

I'm sure her speech will come along in time, especially considering how advanced she is in other areas. Smart little cookie!

I enjoyed all the pictures. I love her expression to the train...and I love the self portrait. That's a good idea. My Spicy Girl always wants to take pictures with my camera. I need to just let her have at it.

My youngest daughter also had delayed speech. And, like your daughter, even though she was way behind in expressive speech, she didn't have any RECEPTIVE speech delay and so did not (according to the state of Missouri) qualify for speech therapy, even though she had identifiable oral motor issues.
So frustrating. But, as it turned out, it didn't matter....in the long run (she is five years old now) her expressive speech eventually developed just fine (simply on its own delayed timetable) without any outside intervention. ...if that is any reassurance to you!
